2. International mathematics union.

IMU is an international non-governmental and non-profit scientific organization, with the purpose of promoting international cooperation in mathematics. It is a member of the International Science Council (ISC). IMU endorses ISC's Principle of Freedom, Responsibility and Universality of Science.

3.International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) is the most significant meeting in pure and applied mathematics, and one of the oldest scientific congresses. The first ICM took place in Zurich, Switzerland, in 1897. ICMs are organized every 4 years by the International Mathematical Union in partnership with organizers from the host country. The overall structure of the ICM is determined by the Structure and the Program Committees of the ICM, as described on following IMU web page.

5. The National Association of Mathematicians (NAM) is a non-profit professional organization in the mathematical sciences with membership open to all persons interested in the mission and purpose of NAM which are:

  • promoting excellence in the mathematical sciences and

  • promoting the mathematical development of all underrepresented minorities.

NAM was founded in 1969; in 2019, we celebrated our 50th anniversary. The mission and associated purposes lead to the following specific major goals of NAM.

  • To engage in activities, projects, programs, conferences, workshops, seminars, etc. which are designed to inspire, motivate, promote, and assist persons of all ages to seek, embark or maintain an active interest/career affinity in some area(s) of the mathematical sciences.

  • To promote and assist in the continued professional development of practicing mathematical scientists and educators, especially those groups that are underrepresented in the mathematical sciences.

  • To support the continued development of excellence in teaching and curriculum enhancement in the mathematical sciences, especially at Historic Black Colleges and Universities/Minority Institutions.

Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics

SIAM Student Chapters Promoting applied mathematics and computational science to young mathematicians and scientists around the world. Start a Chapter Interdisciplinary participation of students and faculty from a variety of departments provides invaluable opportunities to develop networks with faculty members outside of the classroom, share ideas and research with people with similar interests, learn about career options, and develop leadership skills. Chapter activities can include:

  • lunch discussions about career opportunities

  • lectures by guest speakers

  • undergraduate competitions and social functions

  • field trips to industrial laboratories or SIAM section meetings
